Fred Blackmer started his involvement with community affairs in Jefferson County more than a decade ago, a neighbor helping neighbors. Over on the mountain off of Hostler Road, people started to talk with him about the impacts of the new Route 9. They wanted to know how it would change their lives - for good or for ill. And they wanted someone who was willing to speak for them in public. And Fred went to work.
Fred began to research the Route 9 project; he learned how to communicate with public officials, how to assess what they really wanted to accomplish, and how to communicate that information back to his friends. He also started to learn how to be effective.
Over the past 12 years, Fred has since served on local government and non-profit Boards such as Pan Tran, Property Safety Enforcement Agency, Keep Jefferson Beautiful, and the Council on Aging. Fred has also run for state delegate (2000). These experiences have taught him how to use fact in influencing government decisions for the benefit of citizens. Now Fred is offering to put those skills to work for you, your business, or your organization.
Some of Fred's successes include:
- inputs adopted in state legislation/regulations
- successful public funding requests for agencies and non-profits
- successful ordinance amendments
- positive testimony for conditional use permit applications
- successful speed limit changes
If there is something the government can do for or do to you, Fred can help.
